Improving International Students' Arrival Experience With International Student Ambassadors

Transition Support (Student-focused)

According to the Synthesis of International Undergraduate Student Needs by the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance and International Student and Scholar Services, pre-departure and arrival experiences, sense of belonging, available supporting resources and programs, and overall campus climate represent four areas that could be better facilitated for international students. By providing International Student Ambassadors to greet international students at the airport and improve their arrival experience, we can create a more welcoming campus climate, promote a sense of belonging, and provide clearer information about available supporting resources and programs for international students from the time they arrive in Minnesota. Boynton Health aims to improve the airport transportation service it provides for international students in August by working with ISSS to recruit and train international students to serve as International Student Ambassadors. These International Student Ambassadors will greet and welcome international students to Minnesota, help them locate the Gopher Chauffeur vans that provide transportation to campus, and answer questions that international students might have.
