This project will provide international students with opportunities for collaborative research-based interactions with faculty that will increase their sense of belonging and improve their overall academic experiences. The project work will focus on creating a three-credit course on community-based participatory research that is designed, in particular, for international undergraduate students. Students will be able to participate in research and mentoring experiences through ongoing partnerships between the lead researchers/instructors and teachers and students in K-12 classrooms in the Twin Cities. The project will focus on developing strong, meaningful partnerships between faculty and international students. Our community-based focus will extend the opportunity for partnerships to include schools, international middle school students, and their families. Additionally, we have a broader goal of integration that involves creating a community of international students who experience an increased sense of belonging and academic success.
